The Registers of Scotland has taken the decision to suspend application as at 24 March 2020. This means that solicitors should not arrange to settle any property transactions until further information is available. The Law Society of Scotland is aware this will have an impact on any settlements.
The Registers of Scotland are not open but they have created a system that allows applications to be submitted electronically (this included the Disposition – title deeds) so that sales and purchases can go ahead.
Surveyors are currently allowed to inspect vacant properties and in around 7-10 days they will be allowed to inspect occupied properties.
There are daily discussions between the Law Society of Scotland, the Registers of Scotland and the UK Finance Handbook (this regulates all mortgages) and we will let you know about with any further updates.
